From Fall 2001 until Summer of 2002, I conducted a study on Captive Snake Breeding at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. This study compared the breeding habits of members of the genera Elaphe, Pituophis, and Heterodon. I used pesonal experience breeding all three genera as well as books and personal communication from established breeders from the United States. Special thannks to Dean Alessandrini, Jeremiah Ronsonet, and Dwight Good for their contributions.
I also briefly touched on producing hybrid snakes and the ethics of doing so, though I, personally, do not have a strong stance on the issue. This paper will be valuable to anyone thinking of breeding snakes. It covers breeding from hibernation until the babies are born. Enjoy!
