New Jersey Pine Barrens- Summer '04

During the summer of 2004, I made the short ride to the Pine Barrens with my friend Scott M. This is what we found:

Final herp tally: (TMTC= too many to count)
TMTC carpenter frogs
3 Fowler's toads
several eastern painted and redbelly turtles
tmtc eastern box turtles

1 eastern worm snake
1 eastern ribbon snake (lifer)
1 northern pine snake (lifer)

Eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina) These guys were everywhere in the habitat we searched.

Eastern worm snake (Carphophis amoenus) Always nice finding one of these guys. It was my first time finding one in a couple years.

Eastern ribbon snake (Thamnophis sauritus) Yes, I know! Its just a ribbon snake! However, it was the first one I have ever found alive, believe it or not!

another shot.

Northern pine snake (Pituophis melanoleucus) This was my first time finding one of these gems alive. He was about 42" in length.
