Florida Panhandle- Spring Break '04

We found this dead gator at an entrance of Tate's Hell. Looked like it had been dumped there.

Banded water snake (Nerodia fasciata fasciata) These guys were getting frisky on the side of a ditch.

Here I am holding a third banded water snake found a short distance away.

Here's a rather dark and stubby fasciata from ANF.

Eastern glass lizard (Ophisaurus ventralis) This almost yearling was found in some low grass while going through some wood on the side of a road.

Solitary sandpiper (Tringa solitaria ) I found this shorebird feeding on aquatic insects in Tate's Hell.

Florida cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti ) This abundant snake was found in many ditches containting cypress knees.

Another shot of the same cottonmouth.

Here I am after pulling the cottonmouth out from some brush. I'm all ready for battle with my timbos and snake proof gators!

This alligator was found in Wakulla.

Dusky pygmy rattlesnake (Sistrurus miliarius barbouri ) This inhabitatnt of the lowlands was found crossing a sand road one cloudy afternoon.

Here's a tiny (4") baby pyg found under some wood.

Eastern garter snake (Thamnophis s. sirtalis ) What a terrible shot of this aberrant garter. He was blue/green with evenly sized spots throughout his body.

Brown-chinned racer (Coluber constrictor helvigularis) We found a few of these guys. Look identical to southern blacks except for their chin.

Chin shot on that guy.

Here I am posing with the helvigularis.

Redbelly watersnake (Nerodia e. erythrogaster) This specimen was found nowhere near a permanent body of water. He was found basking yards away from the garter above on a sandy road.

Eastern diamonback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus) We found this guy a little too late. He was killed on a highway bordering the ANF. His head was run over and tail was cut off! Some real class people down there!

Prothonotary warbler (Protonotaria citrea) Towards the end of the trip, I spotted this lil guy singing his heart away in a nearby tree. All in all, a successful trip!
